Following - The Plot

An unemployed writer (Jeremy Theobald) randomly pics people in the streets of London and follows them as a source for inspiration. But when he breaks the rules he has set for himself and starts to follow people over a longer period of time, things begin to go wrong. He teams up with the burglar Cobb (Alex Haw) and breaks into the apartment of a mysterious blonde (Lucy Russell), of whom he is fascinated. But slowly he finds out that things may be different than they appear.

The Making of Following

Chris Nolan shot the film himself on 16mm black and white film. Most of the filmmaking was handheld and much of it was done with only available light...
Christopher Nolan says about the making of his first full-feature: "Following was always planned as an ultra-low budget film, so the substance of the film was both inspired by and planned around the shooting style which we developed to accommodate our limited resources.
The script was written along the lines of what I see as the most interesting aspect of film noir and crime fiction; not baroque lighting setups and sinister villains, but simply that character is ultimately defined by action...

The Soundtrack

David Julyan did a wonderful thing in composing the music for Following. It captures both the claustrophobic but also the sad atmosphere of Nolan's first full feature movie.
Unfortunately the Soundtrack was never released.
So I decided to put at least two of the track here on my site. I hope I don't get any copyright problems, but I'am only doing this because there is simply no possibility to buy the soundtrack.

David Julyan - Following - The Box.mp3 0:51 min, VBR (avg. 124kBit/s), 778 kB
The Music for the opening sequence of the movie. This claustrophobic piece sets the tone for the movie.

David Julyan - Following - Following Theme.mp3 2:04 min, VBR (avg. 142kBit/s), 2.158 kB
The Theme. A really fascinating but also sad piece. It can be heard at the end of the movie.

The Script

The script is available as a PDF document which basically contains screen captures from the screenplay version that is included on the Following DVD and is quite large in file size and of mediocre image quality.
If someone has a better version or is willing to retype the script - which would be greatly appreciated just send me an email.
